
Jani-Matti Salo
Jani-Matti Salo (b. 1984) is a new media artist who works with installations, performances, and the various forms of art in between them. Salo studied at the Tampere Polytechnic School of Art and Media during 2005–2009 and the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki during 2009–2015. In 2015 he graduated as a Master of Theatre Arts. Since 2007 Salo has worked as a designer in over 80 productions that have been presented in more than 25 countries. His work has been recognized with an award for Best Design of the Year in Finland in 2014 and 2018.
Salo’s work is often defined by simplicity and a comprehensive idea that penetrates all layers of the performance. At the moment he is interested in illuminating structures and invoking different viewing experiences.
Salo has worked together with W A U H A U S on the performances Flashdance (Zodiak - Centre for New Dance, 2016) and Sapiens – The story of a storytelling species (The Finnish National Theatre, 2019).
